The Digit-al Dozen Does Patterns on Patterns: Hearts on Stripes

Hello, everyone! I hope you are enjoying the Digit-al Dozen week so far! I know I am, but I have a bunch of fun swatches to share with you too, so I’m getting a bit eager for the week to end. Anyway, I’ve got another Valentine’s Day look to share with you today (I know I keep saying that, and all my manicures are really just regular manicures in pink and red, but this one is themed – I promise! It even has hearts in it.) I actually consider this one to be a bit of a fail, because the freehanded hearts are far from perfect, but I think a part of the challenge is to keep up and post every day, even if you aren’t 100% satisfied with your work.

To achieve this look, I started off with a base of LVX Peony. Then, I applied the new thick line nail vinyls from KBShimmer (part of their new spring releases, available here!) and painted over them with KBShimmer Life Rose On. I peeled off the nail vinyls, and drew on little hearts within the lighter stripes. I topped it all off with matte top coat.

I made a quick video tutorial for this look here. (By the way, I hope you are all enjoying my new inclusion of video tutorials – some of the looks I do are basic, but I figure it’s fun to watch the process either way! I know I love watching my favorite nail artists do their thing.)

As I said before, I do think of this manicure as a fail, and I almost scrapped the look completely. But, I figured it might be the only actual Valentine’s Day themed manicure I do this year, so I kept it. It’s definitely a good reminder of how I need to keep practicing my detail work.

I have to say, I am really enjoying this week of pink and red manicures so far! I think my go-to colors for nail art are usually in the blue or purple category, so it’s nice to reach slightly out of my comfort zone and paint my nails with these colors that I don’t often wear. It’s also taught me that I do not own enough pink and red nail polishes!

Here are the two shades that I used for this manicure. I reviewed the LVX shade here, and the KBShimmer here. Again, the nail vinyls I used are available from KBShimmer as well.

What do you guys think of this manicure? Make sure to check out what the other ladies of the Digit-al Dozen have come up with today!
